From the editor

Welcome again to the Focal Point!

We have a treat for our readers in this issue. A new technology is about to be implemented and offered to our customers and we chose to officially announce this success here first, in the Focal Point newsletter, to you, our readers. To complement this new achievement we have a feature educational article about solar energy, addressing everything from batteries to modern lighting applications.

This newsletter also covers the design potential of OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) technology, the Induction Lamp and its environmental benefits, as well a little update on the MLO (Model Lighting Ordinance). The IES and IDA are currently working out the kinks, and soon these wonderful guidelines will be available to protect our night sky.

Lastly, there is a piece of news we'd like to share. Lumec is now rated as level 3 by RECYC-QUÉBEC. Level 3 is the highest level of corporate eco-responsibility recognized by the government of Quebec, and it means that at least 80% of our waste during all stages of production, including pre and post, is being recycled (or will be). For an outdoor lighting company that quite an achievement!

We hope you enjoy this issue, and as always, if you have any comments, any questions please don't hesitate to get in contact with us at lumec.suggestions@philips.com.
