To commemorate the 5th anniversary of the Mont-Megantic International Dark Sky Reserve (RICEMM), the Mont Megantic ASTROLab Corporation and the Sherbrooke CEGEP held a symposium on the challenges and problems related to white LED lighting at night, as well as possible solutions to these challenges.

Winners of the 2012 CLU Foundation Awards

The CLU Foundation has unveiled the four winners of its International Idea contest, held this year under the following theme: Lightitude – Lighting Urban Areas above the Polar Circle during the 2012 Facteur D event, organized by Mission Design. Mr. Sergio Ramos, Spain, has won the first prize of $2,500 for this project Color Cloud; the second prize of $1,500 was awarded to Mr. Ivan Rodriguez, France, for Oasis lumineuse; and lastly, the third prize, of $1,000 was awarded ex æquo to Mr.Balazs Szilagyi, Hungary, for Sphère and Mr. Robert Trempe, United States, for Arctic Blossom. Car Free Day encourages people to get out of their cars and run, walk, cycle or take public transit. The main goal of Car Free Day is urban mobility that is not dependent on the private automobile. The International event In Town Without My Car! invites participating towns and cities to set aside one or several areas solely for pedestrians, cyclists and public transport for the entire day.
