Top 5 Impressive Attributes of UrbanStar

I asked Philips Lumec’s experts in design, optical systems, photometry, engineering and sales what their favorite UrbanStar characteristic was and why. From their responses I have created a top 5 list of the most impressive attributes for UrbanStar.

1-      Its ultra modern organic form inspired by nature combined with the fact that it has been reduced in volume thanks to the thinness of the LEDs (compared to conventional lighting products) makes this lighting solution a product that integrates well in green spaces and modern urban areas.

2-      UrbanStar offers 75lm/W minimum which is very high for a decorative luminaire with a translucent globe. We compared UrbanStar to the Philips Lumec Contemporary Lantern L-80 which produces 50 lm/W minimum and 65 lm/W maximum. The translucent globe allows for very good light uniformity on the ground but in general that globe reduces quite a lot, the performance in lumens/Watts. With UrbanStar, we have a little bit of the best of both worlds: lighting that is uniform and soft but also offers good performance.

3-      The composite construction eliminates the possibility of corrosion. The color is integrated into the paint finish which is sprayed on and adds another layer of protection against environmental pollutant like salt, sand, rain, ice, snow, etc. This makes the UrbanStar an excellent lighting solution for marine environments such as boardwalks and seashores.

4-      UrbanStar is an energy efficient luminaire that provides up to 60% in energy savings compared to the Philips Lumec’s Contemporary Lantern (L-80)

5-      Powered by the Philips LEDgine platform, UrbanStar offers great longevity. It offers an operating lifespan of 75,000 hours (17 years) for driver and LEDs which translates into lower electrical bills and cost savings.
